It is important for young people to actively participate in their own success, not only by acquiring vocational skills, but also by learning how to behave in a work environment and taking advantage of integration and careers guidance opportunities.
At the same time, employers have to provide the resources needed to effectively integrate new employees, then train and retain them. That’s why every year, our subsidiaries organise open days for young people on day-release programmes and, at the end of their contract, a one-day event to ease their transition to the job market.
Tutors and apprenticeship mentors are trained with personalised courses, organised around such topics as:
• Learning to teach
• Managing relations between companies, schools and parents
• Understanding young people in day-release schemes
• Encouraging young people to find their vocation
In 2008, we are launching an awareness campaign for the people who are instrumental in making day-release vocational training a success:
• For partner-schools
• For Elior managers
We currently employ more than 600 young people on day-release programmes, of which 82% under apprenticeship schemes. By 2010 we aim to double this number to 1,000.
